Description
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children can have oral manifestations that are typical of the disease and side effects as a consequence of chemotherapy treatment, in turn the risk factors of caries and periodontal disease that the child can present could aggravate the clinical picture and exacerbate these effects and bring as a consequence the non -administration of the scheduled oncorapeutic protocols. It is essential to carry out a dental assessment prior to treatment, to eliminate infectious foci and value and stabilize the risk factors, this proposal proposes to determine the dental alterations as a consequence of the disease; Value buco-dental risk factors before the respective treatment in children (healthy) and (patients); Evaluate the effect of chemotherapy treatment and the associated risk factors at this treatment stage. In the province of Azuay no study has been conducted with the objectives that we have proposed in this investigation. 70 children under 14 years: 35 children with lymphoblastic leukemia (cases: Solca) and 35 healthy children (controls: children who attend the clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry), will participate in the study and will be included in a non -random way. . (Matched by age and sex). The study has 2 stages: 1) At the beginning in all children a oral clinical examination will be carried out to record the oral alterations of leukemia; Then the different health rates- oral disease of the two groups of children will be obtained. 2) In children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, oral manifestations will be determined due to the effect of chemotherapy treatment. This will be done after the first 17 days of having received the first chemotherapy treatment and a second assessment of the different Buco Dental health indices will be made. With the results of this study, a database will be available with the main oral pathologies before and after the chemotherapy treatment of children with lymphoblastic leukemia; Dental care protocols will be incorporated prior to the start of the treatment of children with chemotherapy. Solca will offer its patients oncological children a new service: pediatric dental care as part of the oncological treatment; Research teams will be consolidated in this line of research to carry out new studies.
