Characterization of the pavement macrotexture using the effective water evacuation area for the improvement of the road safety

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The correct characterization of the pavement macrotexture is an essential objective for transport engineers, since the main superficial characteristics of the pavement such as: friction, noise generated by the interaction of the tire and the pavement, splash, rolling resistance, etc.; They are influenced in a significant way by the macrotexture of the pavement. This project proposes a new and upper index for the characterization of the pavement macrotexture, based on the effective water evacuation area, which better estimates the potential of the pavement to drain the water, and at the same time, which provides improved correlations with the main surface properties of the pavement (friction and noise).
