Seismore resistant capacity and failure of non -reinforced masonry buildings typical of the Historic Center of Cuenca

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Cuenca is a city of high seismic threat, which has suffered at least two earthquakes of important intensity in the past. The panorama is worrying given the deficient seismic resistant potential of the city's built heritage, especially its historic center. In this context, and according to its greatest vulnerability, a study of the seismic behavior of the typology of masonry not reinforced in the historic center of the city is proposed as a project. The study, of a deterministic and parametric nature, will consist of the static non -linear analysis of a family of 18 non -reinforced masonry buildings of the historic center of the city. The modeling strategy to be used is that of equivalent porch with macro-elects spring. The proposed 3D model, which considers the flexibility of the floor system, will be implemented and analyzed in the Ruaumoko program. The main results of the study will be the capacity curves (or Pushover) and the failure of the selected family. This family will be defined within the scope of two -story buildings, depending on three parameters: wall material (adobe, brick), areas in plant (small, average, large) and constructive quality (low, medium, high), and pointing to typical cases in terms of architectural parameters such as the type of roof and the plant distribution of the walls. The results will be very useful as input for future seismic vulnerability studies in the historic center and intervention plans for the reduction of such vulnerability.
