Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The research will systematize and update the data of the unpublished research on popular architecture of Azuay and CAÑAR carried out between 1979 and 1980 product of which there are 1156 sheets 226 drawings and 697 photos and some theoretical reflections on vernacular architecture, carried out by the director of the project of that Entoces. These chips contain technical data of vernacular buildings located in the rural area and consist of: architectural plants, constructive and ornamental details, specification of materials and photographs. This information has a great historical value, it is already part of the cultural memory of the region and is a potential source for the knowledge of the local traditional architectural values that will serve as references to rethink the country's architectural identity. An analysis will be carried out at the conceptual, formal, functional, structural, technological and expressive level to build criteria that allow us to understand the architectural project from a holistic look, typical of a place, which responds to a medium - society and sustainable economy. The research will also update and confront the file data with a current information lifting that will allow to know the level of replacement and assumption of new patterns which will allow in a following stage, compare and value the data to generate models that are possible to apply them to contemporary buildings. The final product will be, in a first stage, the systematization and assessment of the existing research data and in a second, the survival and relevance analysis of the buildings that have so far been maintained. Teachers, researchers and students from the architecture and interiors of the State University of Cuenca and the University of Azuay will work in the research, which will link this work to the educational process and at the same time, it will be the first channel of dissemination of work. It is about establishing a knowledge network from traditional culture knowledge. As a final result, its publication and dissemination of the project is provided from several products and in the various moments of work such as: thinking about popular architecture, the systematization of information and the identification of vernacular housing typologies, a guide of constructive details, a glossary of materials and terms, identification of possible models to apply them in today and the elaboration of a scientific article that indicates the understanding of vernacular architecture Cultural Heritage, the threats it faces for its survival, replacement with new models and the relevance of their knowledge for the solution of the current problems of the habitat.
