Application of wireless technologies to the flow prediction system in the Tomebamba river basin

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The Water and Soil Management Program (PROMAS), conducts research and consulting in the Water Resources Management Area. For which monitoring of different parameters is required. The temporal values of these parameters are collected using hydro-meteorological stations. The PROMAS has 158 functional stations (January 2017) distributed in an extensive geographical area. This area includes from the boxes sector to the province of Cañar. Of these 158 stations 17 are limnigraphic1, and are used for the prediction of flows based on artificial neuronal networks (RNA). Currently, the data collection of the limnigraphic stations is carried out in situ, Promas personnel travel to the stations to copy the data stored at the station. The periodicity of visiting the stations is approximately 90 days. The application of wireless network technologies and the implementation of adequate protocols can solve the problem above, allowing the flow prediction system to have information in quasi-real time (five minutes of delay), and thus reduce the error in the prediction.
