Analysis of the operation of writing groups of researchers at the University of Cuenca: interaction and perceptions.

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

At present, scientific publications constitute the medium legitimized by the Academy for the generation and communication of knowledge. Hence, their number and quality serve as indicators when evaluating individual production as well as institutional. In this context, writing practices and their relationships with scientific publication take importance and merit greater attention for their development. However, in our environment there are scarce initiatives that point in this regard. Writing groups constitute a appropriate professional-academic development device to face these deficiencies. In them the participants share drafts so that their peers comment them and, through collaboration and exchange with others, the authors gradually adjust their writing to the demands of the audience, a key aspect in academic-scientific writing. This practice, common in the Anglo -Saxon world, has not been explored or analyzed in the Ecuadorian university field. To fill the void, this project seeks to analyze the operation of writing groups as development devices for scientific writing practices of professors and/or researchers at the University of Cuenca. Specifically, it is proposed, first of all, to characterize the interactions that occur within the writing groups around the task of writing academic texts; And secondly, examine the perception that participants have about the usefulness of writing groups for the advancement of publications, as well as a means to learn discipline and be included in an academic community.
