Research interests

Lorena Sigüenza-Guzmán is an Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Cuenca (Ecuador). She holds an Engineering degree in Computer Science from the University of Cuenca, a Master’s degree in Telematics from the University of Azuay (Ecuador), and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from KU Leuven (Belgium). Her doctoral research focused on resource allocation and budgeting in libraries. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in "Developing Decision Support Models for Purchase Policies" at KU Leuven.

With extensive experience in academic management, she has served as General Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Cuenca and currently holds the distinction of being the first female Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. She is also a visiting professor at KU Leuven and teaches at the master’s and doctoral levels in programs related to Computer Science and Engineering.

Since 2008, she has actively participated as a director and team member in several national and international research projects, including the VLIR-IUC Project "Institutional Change to Strengthen Research and Education", the Erasmus+ Project "Building Capacity to Use Learning Analytics to Improve Higher Education in Latin America (LALA)", and the VLIR-TEAM Project “Enhancing the AGRi-fOod Supply chain towards Industry 5.0 (AGRO5) in the Ecuadorian Andes”.

She has authored more than 60 publications in indexed scientific journals and was recognized as one of the top 20 female researchers in Ecuador between 1973 and 2023. Her research interests include Optimization, Process Management, Industrial Sustainability, SMEs, Automation, Data Science, Learning Analytics, and Library Management. Additionally, she has been an invited speaker at international conferences and has actively collaborated with multidisciplinary teams worldwide.

Her work continues to bridge technology and education, driving innovation and fostering data-driven decision-making in academic and research environments.
